KID INTRODUCED IN ISRAEL…[Svetlana Shchelkunov/TED News Staff/TED News]

Kfar Baptistim, Israel – On the 26-27 June the Adventist Church in Israel was introduced to the ‘Kids in Discipleship’(KID) ministry.

Children’s Ministries leaders from across Israel assembled in Kfar Baptistim, the ‘Baptist Village’, to attend this seminar presented by Anne-May Wollan, Children’s Ministries Director in the Trans-European Division (TED).

On the first day of the seminar teachers, pastors, lay members and leaders of the Israel Field took part in the seminars and the workshops. The participation of the pastors of each church represented was essential, because they direct the work of their church, and the amount of attention paid to the children in the church depends largely on them.

On the second day, Anne-May conducted one of the KID lessons for children and parents. The President of the Israel Field, Richard Elofer together with Children’s Ministries leaders took an active part in this part of the programme, dividing the roles of parents and children, and enacting a pattern to be replicated.

Pastor Elofer commented “The training was wonderful. All who attended were motivated for Children’s ministries, so much so that they have decided to travel to England to attend training in the full KID ministries programme. As President of the Israel Field I am very encouraged to see so many church members ready to dedicate their free time to teach and mentor young boys and girls. We have about 100 children in our Church in Israel, and among them future leaders of this Field. We thank the TED who is supporting this ministry.”

Svetlana Shchelkunov, Leader of Children Ministries in the Israel Field, said, “Anne-May amazed us by her energy and enthusiasm, and by her great wish to share [this ministry] with us. This meeting inspired us a lot, showing us that there is a real way for salvation of our families and children. Through following the principles of ‘Kids in Discipleship’, broken relationships between parents and children can be re-established, and Jesus can again become the centre of every family. We are praying that this programme will start to work in our region, and we hope for your prayers”.

Anne-May Wollan has spearheaded the introduction of the KID ministry in the TED, and has supported its incorporation into many Churches throughout this division. The KID ministry aspires to mentor kids to be empowered as disciples of Jesus now; and it equips congregations, parents and other mentors to implement the Biblical model of discipleship. Through this intentional discipleship focus, parents/mentors and children grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another; and families are empowered to use their gifts in worship, ministry and mission.
